Data analytics and technology company Verisk has announced the acquisition of UK-based McKenzie Intelligence Services (MIS), a geospatial intelligence and incident response company specializing in real-time disaster and conflict incident analysis around the world.

Financial details of the deal, which was completed by Verisk’s Catastrophe and Risk Solutions business unit, were not disclosed. (See related article: With technology tools plentiful, it’s an exciting time for insurtech McKenzie Intelligence)

MIS provides rapid post-mortem damage assessment, military-grade intelligence and actionable insights to support real-time decision-making after a major loss event. Other management information system services include:

  • Faster, high-resolution disaster incident response: From pre-event alerts to post-event risk loss and quantification, MIS provides fast-response intelligence for insurers, reinsurers, brokers and loss adjusters.
  • Deepening SRCC and political violence risk insights: This acquisition expands Verisk’s leadership in strikes, riots, and civil unrest (SRCC) and political violence risk analysis, delivering real-time event-level intelligence that is activated when events occur.

“Together, Verisk and MIS are committed to helping customers make faster, more confident decisions before, during and after disaster events,” Rob Newbold, president of Verisk Disaster and Risk Solutions, said in a statement. “By combining MIS’s real-time geospatial intelligence with Verisk’s disaster modeling, risk analysis and claims solutions, we can provide customers with a more comprehensive view of an incident as it develops so they can assess impact, prioritize response and support policyholders more effectively.”

MIS aggregates and analyzes geospatial data from multiple sources to provide reinsurers/insurers with fast, accurate insights to support:

  • financial and operational decisions
  • Property damage assessment
  • Confident claims resolution
  • Portfolio Risk Estimate
  • Claims classification
  • litigation support

“We work with Verisk to integrate real-time event data for rapid cumulative analysis, so joining the team feels natural, especially as disasters become increasingly devastating around the world,” said Forbes McKenzie, founder of MIS. “Combined with Verisk’s risk modeling and claims solutions, we can help insurance companies better serve policyholders during their most challenging times.”

MIS will become part of Verisk’s catastrophe and risk solutions, bringing its real-time geospatial intelligence into a broader portfolio of catastrophe risk modeling, global loss indexes, advanced analytics and risk data.

Coupled with Verisk Maplecroft’s expertise in monitoring external risks to operations, supply chains and investments, these capabilities will provide customers with a closer understanding of emerging and ongoing risks, helping them prepare earlier, react faster and make more confident decisions when events occur.

In 2025, Verisk acquired Verisk Model Exchange, a catastrophe modeling platform that evaluates multiple independent views of catastrophe risk within a regulated, vendor-neutral platform where open standards, including an open and non-proprietary risk data framework, ensure each model runs on a consistent financial engine. Verisk Catastrophe and Risk Solutions is part of AIR Worldwide Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Verisk Analytics, Inc.

The MIS transaction is not expected to have a material impact on financial results.
